THE HOMESTEADERS: THE DEATH OF STONEWALL

Mountaintop burial from Shane, a film directed by George Stevens

we are the widowers mourners
of the dead

buried here today
sons  fathers  husbands gone

from the land farm
women have a misery

our men live and die
in the dirt and mud

of a thousand Tombstones
Bitter Creeks and Dodge Cities

in the harsh suns and winters
of this widow's west

men of the shortest years
saved the last bullet

for the women who followed them "going to the
western lands"

the shirt on his back for days
the stinking pants of him  my rebel boy

his home now is underfoot  that
dead pig sodbusting Dixie whistling man of mine

THE LONE RANGER

He is the masked man with the silver bullet and horse
white man hunting badmen

look out Mr. Jesse James  he don't
care about the railroad blowing up
your man in
         the farmhouse

Robert Ford (dirty little coward)
taking aim
         on your back
he is the masked man

William Bonney AKA
Billy The Kid killing twenty one
men  he
has a bullet a rope just for you

farmers eating beef like corn you did
not
         grow
sodbusting fool he will stop you

hungry don't mean breaking the law
you are and he is the masked man

and the law is in both barrels of his
Colt and iron gloved fist
