RIM OF FIRE VOLCANO
Ash & rocks
lava rings among opaline weeds
on mango & saffron church walls
on lilac painted houses & peach
cantera fountains
In cumbia plazas
history is recorded with ceramics,
penas of agave azul &
Mayan designs of feathered serpents
Ancestors speak in
mathematical symbols
of water still flowing
in corn fields
after thousands of years
BROWN PELICAN
I feel the brown pelican’s
shadow
cross my arm &
my arm’s shadow
Like
the echo in sea water
spilling its salty mane
on opal sand
CABO STILL LIFE
Bronze godess
in oceanic dress
arms a straw basket
filled with
tangerine light
ablaze with chatter
of spiny cactus wrens
opens
snowy balcony curtains
like vermilion ocotillos
after a storm
Nueva Vallarta, Nayarit, Mexico
