FROM SILENCE

a single bird
in a leafless
tree above
new snow
at dawn

MY MOTHER’S HANDS # 41

My mother's hands
go to a concert

at the retirement home
they know all the melodies

knew them long before
the musicians were born

played them on a guitar
now long out of tune

know how to clap
without making a sound

THREE HIAKU

snow light
my young grandparents
in the old home movies

doctor appointment
snow in the snow
in my mother's hair

uncertainty
the Christmas cactus
blooms early
