ANOTHER FALL
In love with season all over again
since moving back to this southern
Michigan homeland, I keep looking
for evidences of the people
who brought me here, even as
they’re staring at me out of the old photos
and tintypes but instead
my mother's death makes another
mystery unsolved, another question
unanswered. It was on the tip
of my tongue for the last 10 years
but, hey, everything's clearer now -
everyone's taken their places,
though they aren’t talking. Another fall.
Her birthday month. Sometimes I ask
myself how many times I'll be able to
let go of these leaves.
THREE HAIKU
morning rain -
even the cricket's song
newly washed
end of summer -
two swans
synchronize their circles
winter mending -
sliver moon
in morning clouds
