Some Rules

some rules
of origami say

you can only use
one piece of paper
and no scissors

and in sculpting
you can’t add
only chisel away

same in whittling
and silhouettes

and there are many
such rules for language
that poetry ignores

there’s a legal term
for all such
outlawed activities

de minimis
non curat lex
which means

the law does not
concern itself
with petty matters

neither does poetry
case dismissed
