KEYSTROKES
Like other
keys, these
are self-
contained,
have kept
their day
job.
Unlike
other
keys, these
work together
like thieves
in an art
museum,
with faith
in precisely
the right
combination
of skill and
chance.
Carefully
fitting each
and only
these letters
to my
fingers,
the poem
turns
and
unlocks
me
Deep
August
This sun-
ripened air
is my whole
life passing –
everything I've
loved and ever
will. Cicadas chirr
nonstop
and the cat lolls
on its back
across the sidewalk.
